Through Gunnison, Colorado - the Ute Indians summered in Gunnison in the 1500's. The first none Native American individuals arrived in the 1840's in search of good trapping and mining. Almont, Colorado - prospectors first came here for the mineral deposits of gold, silver, copper, lead & iron. After growing up in Utah and living in Alaska for 6 years, it takes a lot to impress me. Almont ranked right up there as one of the most magnificent places that I have seen. We drove on to Taylor Lake where we parked in the ugliest RV campgound I have ever seen. Luckily, the riding more than made up for it.
