ish but keep in mind that there are 3 layers of tissue that were re
paired. My surgeon estimates that there are over one thousand stitches. The Surgical drain coming out of my flesh in the upper pubic area is 1/4" in diameter of tube that was stitched in. Mine had about 18" of tubing that led to the drain, a large clear soft plastic bulb. The bulb (little
grenade) had a valve at the top for emptying and was hooked to my binder. The hook was met to prevent the heavy bulb from
pulling downward and yanking on the stitches witch would pull out the internal tubing. Not surprising, the tubing hurts. After the first few days, when my painkiller started to wear off, it was the tubing site that gave a nagging pain. Every time I moved or shifted, it hurt. Once I got over the initial shock of seeing bright red fluid in there I learned to measure the amount of fluid and then empty it. At my one week appointment, the surgeon looked at my 'drain log' and determined that the fluid level was low enough that the drains could come out. Oh, Happy Day!.
